XY Cæstello is the art practice of Yan Petris, a Greek artist working between San Francisco, Athens and Berlin. Each city shapes the way he sees, moves, and connects, forming the foundation of his work.
His practice moves across photography, drawing, and print, balancing observation and construction. The work is rooted in lived experience, often focusing on queer identity, intimacy, and connection.
Through portraiture and image-making, he captures moments that feel quiet, personal, and emotionally charged, where presence, desire, and memory unfold in subtle ways.
Alongside photography, the work extends into illustrations and self-published formats such as zines and artist books, building a wider visual language around the same themes.
With a background in graphic design and fine arts studies in Athens and London, his work continues to evolve through ongoing series shaped by the places he moves through.
Currently working independently and through collaborations, his focus is on expanding this practice into editorial, exhibition, and publishing contexts.
